How to jailbreak iOS 5

Apple stunned the world for a second with their new operating system release which is the iOS 5. As fast as the new operating system was released, our friends from the jailbreak community remarkably came up with a tethered jailbreak using Redsnow for it. Everything has their own cons and unfortunately, this jailbreak is only applicable for Mac users. They promised to come up with the Windows version as soon as possible. Also, this jailbreak will not work on the newly released iPhone 4s but compatible to the iPhone4, 3GS, iPad and iPod touch. This jailbreak is also tethered version meaning you have to do it again whenever you reboot your device. So those of you, who would like to jailbreak their devices, please follow the steps below.

1. Make sure you have an updated iTunes (current version is 10.6.1) and an updated OS (iOS5), connect your device and don’t forget to backup your files.

2. Download Redsnow 0.9.9b5 for Mac. link

3. Extract the file and you will have something like this.

4.       Now, double click the application file and you will be shown the interface of the program. Click “Jailbreak” then click next and follow the instructions that will appear onscreen to enter DFU mode.

4. When you have successfully entered DFU mode, Redsnow will automatically jailbreak your device.

5.When you have installed Cydia, you are now ready to reboot your device in tethered mode. Go into DFU mode and click “Extras” then click “Just Boot”. Just remember that you have to do it all over again if you wish to reboot your device.
